Sport & Performance Psychology Consultation
For Athletes & Performers
Whether for peak performance or personal growth, for athletes and performers recreational to elite looking to enhance performance and enjoyment, I offer services that aid in the development of mental skills useful in training, practice, and competition. My approach consists of assessing individual strengths and skills, creating developmentally appropriate short- and long-term goals, and identifying and addressing issues that impede skill development and limit success.
In our work, we will aim to improve attentional and regulatory capacities, modulate arousal, develop situation-specific self-talk, build consistency and frustration tolerance, learn strategies for managing internal and external pressure and stressors, and build a broad and adaptive mindset for you to utilize in and beyond practice, performance, and competition. Nearly everything that we do is a learned skill that required effort, perseverance, and practice; this principle will guide us. I utilize a broad variety of theories from sports and general psychology in order to meet the needs of athletes from diverse backgrounds and in all phases of development. These include, but are not limited to: theories of Flow, Drive, and Mastery; Psychoanalysis; CBT; and Mindfulness.
Additionally, I have an interest in athlete and performer mental health. Athletes and performers are as susceptible as any other to anxiety, depression, perfectionism, addiction, and a variety of other conditions and struggles. If you are an athlete or performer and have found your performance or other aspects of your life limited by your mental health, please contact me for a consultation.
For Parents, Coaches & Instructors
I also offer services to aid parents of athletes and performers, to coaches, and to anyone in an instructional or supportive role in which they are tasked with cultivating, teaching, or leading others. As any parent, coach, or instructor knows, the responsibility of nurturing and teaching is a complex one. It is vitally important to challenge, guide, listen, and comfort. It requires timing and tact, patience and assertion. Cultivating and utilizing the many paradoxical qualities necessary to foster success and enjoyment can be an immense challenge but contributing to growth and growing yourself in service of adapting to your child, athlete, or pupil's needs can be as rich and rewarding a process as any.
